Francesca Panetta curates Sheffield DocFest’s Alternate Realities Programme.
Sheffield DocFest is the UK’s leading documentary festival and one of the world’s most influential markets for documentary projects. The festival champions and presents the breadth of documentary form – film, television, immersive and art – in the vibrant city of Sheffield each June. It offers makers and audiences a place for inspiration, debate, development, learning and challenge. The programming represents its core values – creativity, empathy, freedom, inclusivity, and internationalism.
Alternate Realities is Sheffield DocFest’s showcase exhibition and programme for immersive documentary and non-fiction forms including virtual (VR), augmented (AR) and mixed reality (MR), Artists’ moving image, interactive performance and sound installation from around the world. Also in curatorial scope are formats such as 360° video, artificial intelligence, games, motion comic and video or expanded cinema.
As curator, Francesca leads the curation of the Alternate Realities exhibition and programme for the Festival , including identifying and securing relevant speakers for the Talks and Sessions programme. As well as influence and contribute to the strategy and implementation of the Alternative Reality Talent Market (for immersive documentary and non-fiction forms) and establish the creative parameters for the year-round touring exhibition and events.
